I was in Los Angeles for work and decided to arrive a few days early to explore the city. We'd already been here with Dora years ago, so this time I skipped most of the classic tourist checklist and focused on revisiting a few favourite places, discovering some new ones, and generally seeing how much of LA I could squeeze into two and a half days.

The answer, it turns out, is... quite a lot.

Armed with an electric scooter and an overly ambitious itinerary, I spent the next couple of days zigzagging across the city, convincing myself that LA is actually walkable. It isn't.

I revisited a couple of the film studios, explored neighbourhoods we hadn't seen the first time around, wandered through places that looked strangely familiar thanks to decades of Hollywood films, and finally ticked off something that isn't quite the same with the family: a comedy club followed by an evening hopping between bars along Hollywood Boulevard.

Travelling solo has one big advantage. You can leave the hotel at sunrise, change plans every twenty minutes, stop wherever you like to take photos, and nobody complains when you've walked twenty kilometres in a day... except your feet.

I took hundreds of photos during those three days, but I've tried to be selective. Otherwise, this page would need its own search function.

LA probably deserves a week.

I gave it a long weekend... and I'm still not entirely sure how I managed to fit it all in.
