Foz De Iguaçu

We had to reroute our journey, adding a solid 15 hours of travel time to get from Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro via Foz do Iguaçu Falls. But trust me, it was worth every minute.

With our tight schedule (knowing that every extra moment spent here meant less time in Rio), we made the tough decision to spend only an afternoon at the falls before catching a night bus to Rio. Starting from Buenos Aires, we first arrived at the Argentine border town of Puerto Iguazú. While you can tour the falls from the Argentine side, we knew the Brazilian side offers a far superior view—plus, most of the Argentine side was closed for repairs. So, we crossed the border into Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil and took a taxi straight to the National Park to witness the famous waterfalls.

The entire tour takes about 45 minutes, and with an average Picture Taking Rate (PTR) of 3 photos per minute, we walked away with over 150 pictures documenting this incredible place. Words really can’t capture the breathtaking views, and I’m sure our low-res photos won’t either, so if you want the full effect, I’d recommend looking it up online.

Even though we only spent a few hours there, the town of Foz do Iguaçu gave us our first real taste of Brazil, with its sweltering heat and humidity cranked up to the max. Looking back, we probably should have returned to the Argentine side to catch one of their buses to Rio, but instead, we opted for what seemed like the obvious choice—which, as it turns out, was the wrong choice. Why, you ask? Well, you’ll find out in the next update…
