Shenzhen
Why travel the world and waste time?...This city can give you China in a nutshell
There are 2 things that Shenzhen city is famous for (well, famous to the Chinese) and we had no idea about any of them when we picked this place for our exit from China.
Did you ever wonder if everybody goes to Hong Kong for shopping, where do people from Hong Kong go for shopping?
They cross the Chinese borders and in 30 min they can shop in Shenzhen using their strong dollar.
I did not know anything about the city so we planned to “waste” a couple of days here and then move to Hong Kong. We discovered 2 very big theme parks that would practically take all our time here to explore so suddenly the 2 days planned were not enough.
The first park is called “Window to the world” and it has all the important monuments of the world (scaled down). Everything you can imagine is here, some full scale, some half or a third of the original size and some just as a cute miniature version.
Next door there is another park called “Splendid China”. Again miniature versions of most temples, palaces and monuments, but as you can guess this one is dedicated to China (and Asia). Also there are small villages with houses where each one represents different cultures from around Asia with people dressed in the local outfits performing traditional activities and dances.
Why did we spend a month travelling around China when we could just come here and see everything in a day? With those 2 parks there is no need to travel anywhere in the world. Just come here, take some good photos (by the way, the quality of the miniatures is excellent) and pretend that you have been around everywhere in the world.
Maybe this is what we actually did with this trip, you will never know… I should rename the site “around the park in 120 days” or even better, to fit our travelling style, “around the park in 120 minutes”.
