Rostock
Typical touristic port......in a good way
This port turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Initially, we considered staying on the ship, but we decided to give disembarking a try, and it was absolutely the right choice. The port itself is called Warnemunde, and it’s a charming spot with pleasant canal walks and a plethora of pubs and restaurants clearly catered to cruise tourists. The whole area seems to thrive on the cruise industry, which is probably why we initially hesitated to stay there.
For those feeling a bit more adventurous, there's a bus that takes you to Rostock, a nearby city that offers a more typical German experience. Rostock turned out to be a far better place to wander around, with its historic architecture, cozy cafes, and authentic eateries. It was enjoyable to explore, eat, and drink in a setting that felt less touristy and more rooted in local culture.
In the afternoon, we headed back to the ship since this was a half-day stop. It was also the last port of our journey, so we spent the rest of the day on board, enjoying the amenities and reflecting on what a great trip this had been.
This cruise has officially converted me into a cruise lover. While it can be an expensive way to travel, it's such a fantastic alternative to all-inclusive resorts. You get the luxury and convenience, plus the added bonus of waking up in a new destination each day. I’m already looking forward to planning the next one…
