Verona

The following day, we boarded a train to Verona, a city that, in my opinion, is one of the best places in Italy, especially in the north. Verona perfectly blends history, charm, and manageable size, making it a favourite for anyone who visits.

Since we had a few people in our group who were visiting Verona for the first time, we opted for the classic walking tour to ensure everyone experienced the city's most famous landmarks.

We began at the Verona Arena, the remarkably well-preserved Roman amphitheatre that still hosts concerts and events today. Standing in front of this ancient structure, it was easy to imagine the history that has unfolded here over the centuries.

Next, we made our way to Juliet’s Balcony—a must-see, especially for first-time visitors. While it’s a bit touristy, the connection to Shakespeare’s famous love story adds a layer of romance to the visit, and the little courtyard, with its love notes and the bronze statue of Juliet, is always a charming spot to explore.

After the main attractions, we wandered through Verona’s picturesque alleys, each corner offering something special—whether it was a cozy café, a hidden piazza, or a glimpse of the city’s stunning architecture. The walk along the Adige River, with views of the Ponte Pietra and the surrounding hills, was a highlight, offering a peaceful contrast to the busier tourist spots.

Verona's rich history, beautiful setting, and intimate feel make it a top destination, and it was a joy to share this experience with our group. As the day drew to a close, we all agreed that Verona had captured our hearts and was a highlight of our Italian journey.
