Bolzano

If you visit Verona, it should be considered a criminal offense not to take a day trip to Bolzano. This town, nestled in the Tyrol region—my absolute favourite part of Italy—draws tourists from all over, and for good reason.

Bolzano is the gateway to the Dolomites, and it offers a perfect blend of Italian charm and Tyrolean influence, making it a unique and fascinating destination. The town itself is beautiful to walk around, with its mix of Italian and Austrian architecture, quaint streets, and the backdrop of stunning mountain views.

The highlight of Bolzano is undoubtedly Ötzi the Iceman, the world-famous glacier mummy that can be found in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology. This incredible 5,300-year-old mummy, discovered in the nearby Ötztal Alps, offers a fascinating glimpse into prehistoric life and is something you absolutely must see when visiting the area.

But the adventure doesn't stop in Bolzano. If you take the cable car to Soprabolzano, you’re in for a treat. The ride itself offers breathtaking views as you ascend higher into the mountains, and once you arrive, you'll find yourself in a picturesque little town with panoramic vistas that are nothing short of spectacular. Soprabolzano is the kind of place that feels like it was plucked straight out of a postcard, with its charming Alpine houses, lush meadows, and a serene atmosphere that makes it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle.

Whether you're exploring the historic streets of Bolzano, marveling at Ötzi, or taking in the views from Soprabolzano, this day trip is an absolute must when you're in Verona. It showcases some of the very best that the Tyrol region has to offer and is a reminder of why this part of Italy holds such a special place in my heart.
