Naples

Naples itself often doesn’t get the attention it deserves, especially from Italians in the north. For most visitors, the city is just a gateway to the real attractions: Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. With a few hours in hand, we only did the touristic things (with a tour operator)…

Pompeii is, without a doubt, a highlight. Walking through the ruins of this ancient city, frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, is like stepping back into history. The preservation of the buildings, streets, and even some of the residents is nothing short of incredible. It’s a place where you can truly imagine what life was like nearly 2,000 years ago. The guided tour is worth every minute, providing context and stories that bring the ruins to life.

The Amalfi Coast, however, was a bit of a letdown, especially if you’re familiar with the beauty of the Greek islands. The dramatic cliffs, picturesque towns, and azure waters are undeniably beautiful, but it felt somewhat oversold for what it truly is today. Maybe it’s the commercialism or the hordes of tourists, but it didn’t quite live up to the idyllic image often portrayed. I had the same experience in Miami Beach—something that probably had a different vibe some years ago but now feels a bit outdated.

While the scenery is still stunning, it lacks the authenticity and charm you find in less commercialized places. Still, it’s worth visiting, especially if you’ve never been, but if you’ve spent time in Greece, you might find yourself comparing it to the more untouched beauty of the Greek coastline.
