Lapaz
No golf zone......people here have never seen a flat surface...
La Paz is a city unlike any other, with an architecture that’s as confusing as it is fascinating. Nestled within a giant natural crater, it feels like the most uneven place on earth.
People here must freak out if you talk to them about golf. Every street in La Paz has an elevation that, in Europe, would require a warning sign (and an elevator).
Some streets are difficult to climb, and a regular walk downtown feels like an extreme hiking experience.
The city offers an intriguing contrast for visitors. On one hand, you see a modern metropolis, with suited businesspeople who seem almost out of place amidst the more traditional, indigenous population. On the other hand, La Paz can appear as an old, culturally rich city where the occasional modern skyscraper looks oddly alien. This blend of old and new, traditional and modern, makes the city both perplexing and captivating.
We’re only here for a couple of days, though, as our journey continues to Lake Titicaca near the border with Peru. The plan is to spend a night in a small town called Copacabana before crossing into Peru, with Cusco as our next major destination.
