Hong Kong
...back where we came fromChinese people; love them or hate them...
When you enter Hong Kong from the west and from China you see and appreciate different things.
First time we noticed the skyscrapers, the wealth distribution, the diversity, the Asian culture and customs that is typically seen across the various “Chinatowns” in the western cities.
This time we already had a good idea about China and we noticed (and appreciated) totally different aspects of Hong Kong.
First, it is actually possible to force Chinese people not to spit and litter everywhere by introducing big fines. Hong Kong government should be proud to have achieved something I thought it was impossible. Keep a Chinese spit-free.
Also while travelling in China mainland we never figured out what do they do with the actual meat from the animals they butcher. Most dishes have the skin, feet, nails, heads, organs, hairs, eggs, cooked in any shape or form but there was no actual meat.
In Hong Kong they do serve the actual meat part of the animal (we were seriously thinking after a month in China to becoming vegans).
Another pleasant change is that you are not anymore the freak that everybody stares on the streets. People here have seen more than a few westerners in their life and they do not make you feel like an alien.
Since we came back here for a second time, we did not plan much to do but we did visit a few places we did not have time to see in the first round.
The highlight has to be the day in Disneyland and the photos we got with Mickey and Donald to prove that they really exist. Also, we got to the Launtau Island to see the big Buddha.
We are now on a plane to India on a 6-hour overnight flight to Delhi, looking forward to their food and culture. Part of my time in UK has taught me how to appreciate Indian food while drunk and disoriented. I can’t wait to put my skills into practice…
